The Southern Cross is the smallest constellation in the entire sky. Notice the different colors of the several stars. The brightest (Alpha) is the foot of the cross and going clock-wise from it you have Beta, Gamma (quite orange-red), and Delta (dimmest of the four at the right-facing arm of the cross). Notice also the fifth star (Epsilon) which is included on the Australian flag. The two brightest stars above and right of Crux along the Milky Way are Alpha (closest star system to our Sun--some 4.3 light years away) and Beta Centauri.
